The construction of multimodal discourse of poverty in the Colombian digital media

This bi-national research project aims to incorporate the analytical potential of experimental research methodologies in the area of pragmatics to the study of multimodal discourse of poverty and welfare in the Colombian digital media.

The main objective is to develop the empirical discursive-semiotic studies conducted so far by the Grupo Colombiano de Análisis del Discurso Mediático (GCADM) on the discourse of poverty, and complement them with an analysis of the strategies that the addressees of such discourses use to conceptualize and comprehend them. Both conceptualization and comprehension can be approached experimentally by means of eye-tracking studies and comprehension tests, as in the research carried out by the group "Discourse particles and cognition" (DPKog).
