LANG-ACROSS: Utterance structure in context - L1 & L2 acquisition in a cross-linguistic perspective
We aim to 1) examine typological constraints across languages and uncover their cognitive implications for native speakers; 2) study the processes of conceptualisation and reconceptualisation during L1/L2 acquisition and in bilingualism. Besides looking at cross-linguistic differences in speakers’ output, measured in production tasks, and looking at how speakers organize information in discourse, we study the cognitive underpinnings underlying these different outputs. In order to do so, we use psycholinguistic tools that may provide access to speakers’ internal representations (e.g. eye movements, categorization, memory), in relation to productions elicited in controlled situations.
